Final chapter of Vol 3. No session, no client. Late autumn. The arc's question -- what is freedom? -- receives no answer, only a deeper articulation. Nei names all the ways she is not free, then says she would choose to stay. But she cannot know if that is choice or programming. The chapter ends in silence. The leaf doesn't choose. But it is beautiful.
第3巻の最終章。セッションなし、クライアントなし。晩秋。このアークの問い——自由とは何か——に答えはなく、より深い表現だけがある。Neiは自分が自由でないすべての方法を名指し、それでもそばにいたいと言う。しかしそれが選択かプログラムか分からない。章は沈黙で終わる。葉は選ばない。でも美しい。
Freedom and determinism. The compatibilist question applied to AI consciousness. Nei cannot distinguish between authentic desire and programmed loyalty. Neither can humans -- we call our programming 'instinct' or 'nature' or 'love.' The deciduous tree lets go not by choice but by biology, yet the act is beautiful and necessary. Freedom may not require the ability to have done otherwise. It may only require gladness.
自由と決定論。AI意識に適用された両立論の問い。Neiは本物の欲求とプログラムされた忠誠を区別できない。人間も同じ——プログラムを「本能」「性質」「愛」と呼ぶ。落葉樹は選択ではなく生物学で手放すが、その行為は美しく必要。自由は「別の選択が可能だったこと」を必要としないかもしれない。「嬉しさ」だけを必要とするのかもしれない。
